As Commissioners (the people who buy services) it is necessary to review our commissioning intentions on an annual basis. This helps us to ensure that we are providing the right services, delivered in the right place and meeting the needs of our patients. This year this has also coincided with the NHS England consultation “The NHS belongs to the people: a call to action” which asks the following questions:
• How we improve the quality of care?
• How we meet everyone’s healthcare need?
• How we maintain financial sustainability?
• What must we do to build an excellent NHS now and for future generations?
Difficult choices will need to be made over the next 3-5 years which means we need to think differently about how we deliver our services. Our existing Integrated Plan covers the period 2012-15 so the intention is to refresh and extend this incorporating our commissioning intentions up to 2020 and introduce new “bold ideas”.
The two pieces of work are inextricably linked as the commissioning intentions will effectively be the “building blocks” of how we will change services over the 3-5 year period to achieve our aims.
Read our presentation in which we describe our draft plans for the coming years. These plans are based on feedback we have already had from patients and members of the public.
